AV, Discovery Gateway, and lots of fun!

Here are some photos of the kids in the pool in Apple Valley at Seth's parents house (Craig and Paula). They had a really good time! It was Rosie's first time swimming, and Eddie was in heaven.

We also went to Discovery Gateway, a kids fun center. We tagged along with our previous home school co-op. It was fun to see old friends.

Massive Sticker Chart!

In lieu of giving candy as incentives, we made this enormous chart to reward good behavior. It is working so far!

There are several sections, and a reward for fulfilling that section, commensurate with the effort required to get there. Many of these rewards are things we would do anyway, but this way he will habituate good behavior along the way.

The pink squares indicate completion and fulfillment of the reward. For example, Lagoon is a roller-coaster and wet ride park here, and it's a BIG DEAL. So Eddie only has one chance to win that, ergo the one pink square in the final space. But we give him lots of chances to get stickers- he gets one every time he completes an instruction the first time.

Talking respectfully gets a trip to the trampoline park at the end of each row.

Doing his five morning chores without being asked gets an activity out of the house with Daddy. (This one has more frequent winning squares since that's such an important thing to do.)

If Eddie tidies his toys or does any cleaning without being asked, he gets to go to Cowabunga Bay, another wet park here. This one is another pretty awesome place, so it only has two winning squares.

Not arguing gets a trip to the pool every 25 squares.

Saying the prayer was always pulling teeth. Now Eddie loves it. He gets to play with a friend after ten times. Again, this is something we frequently do anyway, but we might as well teach good habits while we're at it.

The last section is having good manners without being asked- basically saying, "excuse me", "please" and "thank-you", "sorry", etc.

We're keeping track of all Eddie's earned stickers on our California and will update the chart when we get home. So far so good!

Blah sweater into cool boho skirt!

This sweater looks tired, know what I'm sayin'?  So I flipped it upside down, opened the shoulder seams, closed the arm holes and now it's a cutesy skirt! I used all the material and didn't even up the bottom edge because I thought the variegated length looked cool. I didn't even hem the bottom because I cut right along the edge of the knit design so it held together by itself. Space-sucker into usable apparel. Sanity restored!

Pencil-skirt lengthen and slit closure

Ever had a pencil skirt that was super cute but the slip went halfway up the back of your thigh? And when you sat down the skirt rose up like four inches?  Hey, me too!

So I took my favorite pencil skirt that I NEVER wear (EVER!) because of these problems,  and added a little length at the bottom and sewed a little triangle from a scrap of jersey cotton I had in my miscellaneous fabric drawer at the slit and VOILA! Usable clothing again. Hurray!

An up-close view of the pattern.
